AFCON 2021 predictions: Can hosts Cameroon overcome Egypt to reach the final?

A semi-final is much like a final.

After Senegal qualified yesterday, with a big and convincing victory against Burkina Faso, it is time for the second AFCON semi, where hosts Cameroon take on Mo Salah’s Egypt, who are among the contenders to win the tournament. What a game. Last prediction before the big final on Sunday!

Cameroon v Egypt, 20:00 CET, Japoma Stadium, Douala

One team has won the tournament five times, the other, seven. Cameroon are unbeaten so far in the tournament, Egypt have lost only to Nigeria, and have been improving dramatically as the tournament progresses.

While Cameroon enjoy a lethal attacking duo - Vincent Abubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi - Egypt have developed into a very balanced side, with Salah acting as a playmaker from the flank, and Marmoush and Mostafa Mohammed applying the pressure. Carlos Queiroz is finally assured that the Pharaohs can beat any team in Africa.

BabaGol’s prediction: With all the goodwill to the home fans in the stadium, Egypt will win, and everything will be set for the ‘little tournament’s’ big final.
