Born in Argentina to a Peruvian father, Catriel Cabellos plays for Peru in international youth levels. Although haven’t played any first team football yet, he recently signed his first professional contract with Racing Club and gained a positive prognosis for his future.
I’ve seen him play in various roles, from left back to a more offensive-oriented midfielder. I’m not sure the full back position suits him best, but in other roles he did well and appeared comfortable.
He has very good technical skills, keeping possession and dribbling out of tight areas with ease, while shielding the ball properly and showing quick feet. Cabellos is effective in transitions too, with good awareness and versatile passing to play it quickly forward.
More impressive qualities are that he is proactive out of possession, reads the play well and tries to attack the ball and intercept passes when in more central positions and press well when playing wide. While not too big, he can win physical duels and his body structure suggests that with some work it shouldn’t be an issue in the future.
His technical skills are very good, he understands the game well and nothing I saw suggests any character problems. His physical attributes should improve with time and work, as well as his decision making, and then Cabellos will probably start to make a name for himself in professional football. His next goal is to play for Racing Club’s first team in the near future - and from what I’ve seen he has the skills to accomplish it if he’ll keep progressing and work hard.
