AFCON 2021 predictions: Ghana desperate for win over Comoros

Group A is complete. Cameroon and Burkina Faso secured their spots in the next round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, while Cape Verde are waiting for the final rankings of the 3rd place teams.

As the groups continue to wrap up, Ghana, Gabon, Malawi, Senegal and Guinea, and even Comoros and Zimbabwe, still have something to play for.

Malawi v Senegal, 17:00 CET, Keoukong Stadium, Bafoussam

Malawi have been a breath of fresh air in this tournament, with Gabadinho Mhango and his band. Senegal on the other hand, have been disappointing. Their excuses so far include having players absent due to Covid, having early kickoffs, and the heat and humidity it causes. The Teranga Lions are yet to score their first open play goal this tournament, and they cannot afford to drop points here.

BabaGol’s prediction: This match will be Senegal’s time to kick on and prove their worth.

Bet365 odds: Malawi 9.50 | Draw 4.33 | Senegal 1.36

Zimbabwe v Guinea, 17:00 CET, Stade Ahmadou Ahidjou, Yaoundé

Zimbabwe have nothing to lose and will try to win while hoping for Malawi to drop points. They’ll still need other groups to go their way to maybe clinch a 3rd place spot.

Guinea and Naby Keita looked good in both of their games, and will hope to get the three points. A win would see them ranking higher for a better draw in the knockouts.

BabaGol’s prediction: This tournament is so unpredictable, so is this draw.

Bet365 odds: Zimbabwe 6.50 | Draw 3.60 | Guinea 1.60

Gabon v Morocco, 20:00 CET, Stade Ahmadou Ahidjou, Yaoundé

This game is an interesting one. Gabon, despite missing six players to Covid, including star players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina, have played well so far. In fact, they have looked better without their stars, thanks to performances from players such as Aaron Boupendza.

Since Morocco have already qualified, we might head into an interesting scenario with this one.

BabaGol’s prediction: Gabon has everyone against them, and even before the tournament had started due to the sexual assault scandal that was revealed in their youth teams. But despite all that, they will win.

Bet365 odds: Gabon 7.50 | Draw 3.10 | Morocco 1.70

Ghana v Comoros, 20:00 CET, Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adija, Garoua

The biggest match of the day, if not the group stage so far. The whole of Ghana will be buzzing for this one, as they are facing a sudden death situation. The Black Stars will be fighting for their life. Will the team that made it to eight AFCON finals, and 11 semifinals, leave the tournament at the group stage? Prepare for the ground in Accra to shake if so.

BabaGol’s prediction: Ghana will win to qualify from the 3rd place. Scenes in Garoua!

Bet365 odds: Ghana 1.28 | Draw 5.00 | Comoros 13.00
