Oman and Bahrain to Clash in Arabian Gulf Cup Final

Oman delivered a stunning 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in the Khaleeji 26 (Arabian Gulf Cup) semifinals on Tuesday.

Goals from Arshad Al Alawi (75th minute) and Ali Al Busaidi (85’) secured Oman's place in the final, despite a late consolation strike from Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Kano.

The defeat marks another setback for Saudi Arabia in 2024, following their early exit from the 2023 AFC Asian Cup at the hands of South Korea. This latest disappointment continues their challenging run in major regional competitions.

Bahrain in the final

In the other semifinal match, Bahrain emerged victorious with a 1-0 win against tournament hosts Kuwait at Jaber Al Ahmad Stadium. Mohamed Jasim Marhoon's 75th-minute goal proved decisive, sending Bahrain through to the final.

The upcoming Khaleeji 26 final between Oman and Bahrain represents a growing tradition in Gulf football dynamics, as neither of the traditional regional powerhouses will compete for the trophy. The Omanis will play their second final in a row and their sixth final since the beginning of the millennium. For Bahrain, the 2019 edition winners, the final will be a rare opportunity for silverware.

Both nations now prepare for what promises to be an exciting championship match.
