Boycott: MLS On Hold, as US Athletes Fight Racial Injustice

Following the weekend police shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man in Wisconsin, United States, the American sports world stands still.

It is not by organizers or officials' decision, but by the players' actions.

What started in Milwaukee Bucks deciding not to play their scheduled Wednesday night game against Orlando Magic, continued with a boycott in the WNBA (the women basketball league), the MLB (the baseball league) and Major League Soccer, the MLS - the United State's professional football league.

Matches between Inter Miami vs Atlanta United, Dallas vs Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake vs LAFC, San Jose Earthquakes vs Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders.

The MLS itself, as well as the clubs, have issued statements of solidarity with the struggle for fixing racial injustice in the United States.

The MLS Is Back tournament this year was officially a "Black Lives Matter tournament", and the historic acts by the US athletes tonight express another level of social issues echoing loud in football, and sports in general.
