Baba Scouted: Nicolas Acevedo

The world is full of young football talents. They grow up in the streets of Marseille, Mexico City, Lagos, Kolkata or Sarajevo, and the world is literally at their feet.

Each week, our 'shadow' scout Juan Gafas is sharing one talent that caught his eye.

Nicolas Acevedo

Age: 21

Club: New York City (USA)

Position: Centre Midfielder

Nationality: Uruguayan

Market Value: 1.600.000 € (Transfermarkt)

Why follow him? Nicolas Acevedo is a rising star in Uruguayan football. He possesses the great character his country's defensive midfielder is known for, alongside elegancy and quality when playing on the ball.

Nico is another promising product of Uruguayan club Liverpool. He played a significant role in this small club winning the last Torneo, making a name for himself with the Celeste youth national teams as well. Just before the COVID-19 break, he signed with New York City FC, hoping that joining the City Football Group will help his career further on.

Acevedo is a central midfielder with excellent skills on the ball, who can pick a pass quickly and over a wide range, always playing with his head up and having a good vision of the pitch. He doesn't get into the final third so often, tends to stay back, but can help his side getting there. Nico reads the game very well when defending too, alongside his hard-working mentality, it makes him useful in winning possession back.

He is small and lacks strength, something he will have to improve, but the MLS should be the right place to start.

Waiting for his debut longer than he expected, Acevedo must be itching to get on the pitch winning the ball at the back and distribute it with style and ease to his new teammates, as he did so well for Liverpool and Uruguay.
