Coronavirus Times: For how much longer can Belarusian football continue?

After 8 match-days which proceeded normally, along with crowds and under minimum restrictions, COVID-19 has started to catch up with Belarusian football.

Earlier this week, FC Minsk have reported that a few of their player have been suspected of carrying the virus - and the team has entered lockdown.

Their match against Neman Grodno, scheduled for today - has been postponed. It is currently unclear how this situation will affect the rest of the teams, but it is fair to say that there is a growing possibility of Belarusian football stopping in the near future.

Torpedo BelAZ Zhodino v Gorodeya

The only match that took place today was broadcasted live on BabaGol, via MyCujoo.

The recurring theme this season has been the constant change of table leaders, and the high number of teams that feel they have a chance to surprise early on. One of those sides is Torpedo BelAZ, who won today 3-1 and temporarily jumped to first place - at least until the match-day will complete.

Torpedo made easy work of the guests. Brazilian Lipe Veloso tapped home in front of an empty net In the 26th minute, and added a second in the 53rd after a beautiful team move that left him alone in front of goal. In between, Stanislav Sazonovich was sent off for Gorodeya for a second yellow card - after a high tackle on Gabriel Ramos.

In the 74th minute, Lazar Sajcic scored a consolation for Gorodeya. But if anyone thought this will scare Torpedo, the response came after three minutes: Andrey Khachaturyan killed the game for good with the third for his team. On the one hand, the hosts can celebrate today - but who knows for how much longer the league will go on at this rate?
