EFL Championship Last Day: Three Stories to Watch

After Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United have confirmed their promotion to the Premier League, the race for the second spot will be concluded on Wednesday.

West Bromwich Albion, Brentford, and Fulham will try to end the last matchday with a promotion, and each club has its special hero.

The results of the weekend's match in the EFL Championship gave a little twist for the teams. It began on Friday when West Bromwich Albion lost 2-1 against Huddersfield. On Saturday, Brentford had a great chance to climb to the second place, but they failed to do it on a rainy afternoon in Stoke, with a 1-0 defeat. Fulham got back to the track with a 5-3 win against Sheffield Wednesday. In the current situation, West Bromwich Albion is on the second place with 82 points, Brentford is next with 81 points, and Fulham is fourth with 80 points.

West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion is the opportunity of Slaven Bilic to be part of the football's main stage. Last season, Bilic was appointed as the manager of Ittihad Jeddah from Saudi Arabia. His spell there was short, lasted for only five months, and was sacked after the team was in the relegation zone and barely won. Now he can raise his reputation and make a second Premier League spell after he has already managed West Ham United for a year and a half.

Brentford

Brentford is dreaming on a comeback to the English top tier. 73 years passed since Brentford relegated from the First Division for the last, back in 1947. Now they are aiming for a comeback, and their key player is Saïd Benrahma. The 24-year-old Algerian winger is enjoying his best season ever with 17 league goals. After spending years as a loaned player in the French lower divisions, Benrahma is close than ever to a first Premier League season. His name was also mentioned as a potential signing for Arsenal and Chelsea with a price tag of £30m.

Fulham

Fulham is re-living their 2018 promotion campaign with the same top gun - Aleksandar Mitrović. Two years ago, the Serbian striker scored 12 goals in 20 league matches, leading Fulham to promotion via the playoffs. Although Fulham has been relegated back to the Championship after one season, Mitrović decided to extend his contract and to lead the club back to the Premier League. Now he is the league top scorers with 26 goals, but Fulham still has to win the last match.

The last matchday will be played on Wednesday. West Bromwich Albion will host QPR, Brentford will play at home against Barnsley, while Fulham will travel to Wigan. One team will win the ticket to the Premier League, while the other two teams will have to play at the playoffs.

Who will finish to the season as a newly promoted team, alongside Leeds United?
