Coronavirus Times: Real Estelí Wins The Nicaraguan Title Again

The season is over in the Liga Primera de Nicaragua when the second leg of the Clausura final was played last night.

FC Managua hosted Real Estelí for a match that will decide who will win the championship title.

After finishing on the top place in the regular season, Managua wanted to clinch the title for their second time ever. Real Estelí, who won the last two league titles, had to work hard for the third one after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The first half was goalless, but the second period was the ideal time for Real Estelí to strike. It began in the 48th minute when Manuel Rosas shot a direct free kick into the net from 30 meters. Estelí took the lead, but now also made the lone away goal by FC Managua irrelevant.

In the 70th minute, Real Estelí crossed the field in three passes from the goalkeeper Denver Fox to midfielder Brandon Ayerdis, who scored the second goal. Five minutes later, the game was completely over, as Ayerdis made a long pass to Luis Acuña. In Acuña's first touch, he crossed the ball to Marlon López, who found the net. A late goal in the 84th minute by Mexican Carlos Félix was not enough, and Real Estelí won 3-1.

Real Estelí maintains their dominance in Nicaraguan football. It's not only their third consecutive title, but it's also their 12th title since 2003. There is only one club in Nicaragua with more titles, Diriangén, who won 27 championships.
