Coronavirus Times: Real Estelí is Losing Height

During the past days, rumours about the health conditions of Nicaragua's president, Daniel Ortega, in the context of Coronavirus, have been circulating.

Although he has not been seen in public for a few weeks, it seems that his orders are still in place.

The national football competition is one of the activities that Ortega and his government are cultivating despite the global pandemic. While the rest of the world has stopped its football activity initially, the league in Nicaragua is still active. Despite some players' protests, it even attracted interest in outside of central America, towards Europe.

Last night, the 15th matchday took place, and it seems that the leading trio that seems to battle for the first two spots that promise spots in the playoff' semifinals, has been sealed.

In Nicaragua after the regular season, there is a playoff, where places 2-6 are playing quarterfinals, while the teams ranked 1-2 are waiting for the winners in the semis.

Throughout the season Managua FC, Diriángen and Real Estelí, all were keen and seemed as contenders for one of the top two rankings, but last night things looked to go in a particular direction.

While Managua won 2-1 against Deportivo Ocotal, and Diriángen hammers Chinandega 4-0, Real Estelí the third competitor for the semifinal spots, has emerged just 0-0 draw with Juventus Managua.

With two draws and one loss in the last three matches, Estelí has gained only 2 points of the previous possible 9, including a bitter loss Walter Ferretti.

At the moment, Managua is leading the table with 33 points, Diriángen is second with 30 and Estelí are third, with a lousy momentum and only 28 points.

Next week Diriángen is hosting Estelí for a decisive head-to-head battle on the second spot.

It's getting hot in Nicaragua Clausura.
