Coronavirus Times: Weekend Starts Early in Belarus & Nicaragua

The past week has seen an ongoing battle between football and coronavirus.

On one hand, we counted another victim of the pandemic - Burundi that has stopped its football activity, but on the other hand, Taiwan Premier league returned and the preparation for the Turkmen Yokari Liga is taking place in this exact moment.

Yet, in Belarus and Nicaragua, we had some live football action.

BELARUS VYSHEYSHAYA LIGA

Belarusian football has already gathered a new group of believers and devoted fans in the past month, thanks to its demanding title of the last functioning league in Europe. On Thursday evening, Eneregtyk BGU, the surprising league leaders not so long ago, hosted Gorodeya and lost 1-0.

In the second game, that was broadcasted live at BabaGol via MyCujoo, Dinamo Minsk finally managed to get a 2-0 victory against Neman Grodno.

NICARAGUA PRIMERA DIVISION

The anticipation towards Nicaragua’s clásico and match of the season in BabaGol was quite high, but eventually, the game couldn’t match the expectations. A royal 0-0 with not much to write home about.

As we are used from the Nicaraguan football these days, there was always a story that was bigger than the game itself.

Remember the match between Real Madriz and Juventus Managua, that was abandoned on the 71st minute by the Madriz players due to a controversial decision by the referee? Well, this story has an interesting development. According to Mediotiempo, Real Madriz was fined for $145 and a 3-0 loss.

Madriz’ players left the pitch in protest of the second goal scored by the hosts: After a through ball, the linesman raised the flag for an offside, and the Madriz defence totally froze. However, the referee ordered to play on, allowing Allan Mercado to easily score. A bizarre situation to say the least, that is probably possible only in Nicaragua during a global pandemic.
